CityLights Submission Guidelines
Share your work in urban maternal and child health with the CityMatCH network
CityLights highlights innovative practices in urban maternal and child health. We welcome article submissions from CityMatCH members, local health department staff, academic partners, and others working to improve the health of women, children, and families in urban communities.
What We Publish
- Innovative programs and practices from city and county health departments
- Lessons learned from program implementation, partnerships, and community engagement
- Data-to-action stories: how local data informed MCH decision making
- Workforce and leadership development experiences in urban MCH
- Commentary on emerging issues affecting urban maternal and child health
Format & Length
- Articles are typically 500–1,200 words; shorter program spotlights are also welcome.
- Write for a practitioner audience — clear, practical, and jargon-free.
- Include a short author bio (1–2 sentences) with your title, organization, and city.
- Submissions in Word or Google Docs format are preferred.
Images
- Photos, charts, and infographics are encouraged — please send them as separate files (not embedded).
- You must have permission to publish any image you submit, including photo releases for identifiable people.
- Include a caption and credit line for each image.
Review Process
The CityMatCH communications team reviews all submissions for fit, clarity, and length. We may suggest edits and will share any substantive changes with you before publication. Submission does not guarantee publication, and timing depends on the upcoming issue’s theme and space.
How to Submit
Send your draft and any images through our contact page, noting “CityLights submission” as the topic. We’ll confirm receipt and follow up with next steps and the editorial timeline for the upcoming issue.
